1. Who are the founders of Rubicon Exotic Juice drinks?
In 1982, Rubicon was founded in the UK by 2 ex-employees of a major international soft drink company. Seeing an un-explored segment of the market, they decided to start their own company specializing exclusively in exotic beverages. Today, Rubicon leads the UK market in exotic juice drinks.
2. Why the name Rubicon?
The founders took inspiration from a time in history. The mythological meaning of Rubicon comes from the Roman era, when a senate told Caesar that his boundary should be restricted to the river Rubicon; however, Caesar ventured past the river against instructions and ended up with a large Roman empire. He was adventurous and daring much like our founders.
3. How long has Rubicon been making exotic juice drinks?
We have been specializing in the manufacture of exotic juice drinks since 1982.
4. Where are Rubicon Exotic Juice drinks made?
Rubicon has manufacturing facilities both in Canada and the UK. The fruit pulp is brought in from countries around the world where the best varieties of exotic fruit are grown.
5. Do I have to keep my Rubicon and Sun Exotic drinks in the fridge?
All Rubicon tetra pak cartons will keep at room temperature for 18 months from the date of manufacture in a cool dry place, but once opened they should be kept refrigerated and consumed within 3 days. All of our juices are more refreshing when served chilled.
6. Why does it recommend on the box that I consume the juice within 3 days?
The reason we recommend to consume within 3 days is that, once a consumer opens the pack the package losses its sterility and there are chances for cross contamination from the air or from the consumers hands no matter how clean they are. For a mould to grow it takes 72 hours at approximately 20 C. Chilled conditions keep the mould growth under control, prolonging product life 4-5 days. The recommendation is just an advice for the consumer to remain safe from potential food safety issues, which these moulds or their toxins can cause.
7. Your website indicates which chains carry your juices however I
Although we are listed in all major chains, it is not necessarily available at every store as it is often at the discretion of the individual store owner. Also, you may be having difficulty locating the product in your store because Rubicon juices are typically not found in the mainstream juice aisle, because of their exotic nature they can often be found in the ethnic/international aisle. If you can't find our products on the retailer shelves, then we suggest that you speak to the store manager. As long as the flavour/range is ordered by their head office, then they should be able to request it in for individual local stores. Or, give us a shout, maybe we will be able to help finding the Rubicon Exotic drink you are looking for.
8. Cannot find it in my local store?
The sugar content in our juices can be divided into two groups; "natural sugar" and "added sugar". Natural sugars are the carbohydrates that are naturally present in fruits. Added sugar comes in the form of cane sugar. If the juice is 100%, the sugar must come from the fruit source only. Due to the thickness of the exotic fruit pulps we use (vs. apple, orange, cherry, etc) we cannot have 100% single fruit juices and must add water. Added sugars are necessary in our juices due to the natural sugar that is lost during the concentration process. These lost natural sugars are then substituted with cane or beet sugar, etc.
9. Why do you need to add preservatives to your juices?
Rubicon juices do not contain "fermented" alcohol. Many juice drinks do contain a trace of ethanol which comes from the flavour creation process. The level is extremely low and due to it solely being used in flavourings is considered to be acceptable and widely used in all food industries. The level is so tiny (less than 0.05% of ethanol) that it has no intoxicating effect whatsoever and has no effect on the smell, colour or taste of the product so it bears no trace of its original nature. The trace amounts of ethyl alcohol in some of the juice products on the market are derived from grapes or dates.
